چکیده

Given a point set P and a class C of geometric objects, GC(P ) is a geometric graph with vertex set P such that any two vertices p and q are adjacent if and only if there is some C ∈ C containing both p and q but no other points from P . We study G5(P ) graphs where 5 is the class of downward equilateral triangles (ie. equilateral triangles with one of their sides parallel to the x-axis and the corner opposite to this side below that side). For point sets in general position, these graphs have been shown to be equivalent to half-Θ6 graphs and TD-Delaunay graphs. The main result in our paper is that for point sets P in general position, G5(P ) always contains a matching of size at least ⌈ n−2 3 ⌉ and this bound cannot be improved above ⌈ n−1 3 ⌉ . We also give some structural properties of GC(P ) graphs, where C is the class which contains both upward and downward equilateral triangles. We show that for point sets in general position, the block cut point graph of GC(P ) is simply a path. Through the equivalence of GC(P ) graphs with Θ6 graphs, we also derive that any Θ6 graph can have at most 5n− 11 edges, for point sets in general position.

Weak Matching Points with Triangles

In this paper, we study the weak point matching problem for a given set of n points and a class of equilateral triangles. The problem is to find the maximum cardinality matching of the points using equilateral triangles such that each triangle contains exactly two points and each point lies at most in one triangle. Under the non-degeneracy assumption, we present an O(n) time algorithm using the...

Color Spanning Annulus: Square, Rectangle and Equilateral Triangle

In this paper, we study different variations of minimum width color-spanning annulus problem among a set of points P = {p1, p2, . . . , pn} in IR, where each point is assigned with a color in {1, 2, . . . , k}. We present algorithms for finding a minimum width color-spanning axis parallel square annulus (CSSA), minimum width color spanning axis parallel rectangular annulus (CSRA), and minimum w...

Strong matching of points with geometric shapes

Let P be a set of n points in general position in the plane. Given a convex geometric shape S, a geometric graph GS(P ) on P is defined to have an edge between two points if and only if there exists a homothet of S having the two points on its boundary and whose interior is empty of points of P . A matching in GS(P ) is said to be strong, if the homothets of S representing the edges of the matc...

Quantization for uniform distributions on equilateral triangles

We approximate the uniform measure on an equilateral triangle by a measure supported on n points. We find the optimal sets of points (n-means) and corresponding approximation (quantization) error for n ≤ 4, give numerical optimization results for n ≤ 21, and a bound on the quantization error for n → ∞. The equilateral triangle has particularly efficient quantizations due to its connection with ...

On the Geometry of Equilateral Triangles

By studying the distances of a point to the sides, respectively the vertices of an equilateral triangle, certain new identities and inequalities are deduced. Some inequalities for the elements of the Pompeiu triangle are also established.
